PhD project description
Services like telephone or internet connection can be treated as Concatenated Services with service parts provided by multiple service providers. During the assurance of the Quality of Service (QoS) is well mastered by a single organization as well as by hierarchical inter-organizational relationships, the End-to-End (E2E) guaranties by Concatenated Services remain impossible and their E2E-QoS results from the best effort strategy of involved service providers.
The Service Level Management (SLM) is noted in ITIL, ISO 20000 and NGOSS as one of the core disciplines of IT Service Management aiming at providing IT services in the quality required by the customers. The intention of this PhD thesis is to define SLM-aware management architecture and corresponding processes for the Concatenated Services. An integral part of the targeted solution is the multi-domain routing which covers not only the E2E-QoS constraints specified by customer (also known as QoS routing or QoS-aware routing) but also management aspects like monitoring or definition of communication ways.
As the main design criteria can be called the extendibility of the architecture, which should simplify extensions if new requirements rise, as well as its customizability in order to cope with the different policies of involved autonomous domains.
